Dr. Richard Reimer gave the evening’s keynote and placed the risk-based approach within the broader banking supervisory context. Drawing on his advisory experience in BaFin authorisation procedures, outsourcing projects and work with FinTech companies, he provided concrete practical examples from regulated environments.

Achim Sprengard contributed the auditor and supervisory perspective to the panel discussion as Managing Partner of GAR and a member of the IDW working group “AML audits in the financial sector”. His focus: what a risk-based approach means in practice for audits and where obliged entities regularly encounter pitfalls.

Dr. Uta Zentes brought the perspective of a public-law institution to the panel as Head of Compliance at the German Finance Agency. With her extensive experience at international audit firms and Commerzbank AG, as well as being co-editor of a commentary on the German Money Laundering Act, she placed the risk-based approach in the context of the new EU regulation.

Dr. Jacob Wende opened the evening together with Olaf Bausch and then moderated the panel discussion “Risk-based approach: a blessing in disguise?”. As CEO of Regpit, he contributed the technological perspective: how RegTech solutions support obliged entities in implementing a risk-based approach in practice in a consistent and auditable way.
