Interview on Political Plans in the Fight Against Money Laundering

Interview with Dr. Jacob Wende

On February 19, 2025, Frankfurter Rundschau published an article titled “Germany is a paradise for money laundering: This is how the Greens plan to tackle it.” The article presented political proposals aimed at more effectively combating money laundering in Germany, coinciding with the 2025 federal election campaign.

Key proposed measures include:

  • the establishment of a Federal Office for Financial Crime (BBF),
  • mandatory transparency rules,
  • and cash payment caps, especially for real estate purchases.

In the article, Dr. Jacob Wende, CEO of Regpit, shares his assessment of the proposed measures. He welcomes the political will to take a stronger stance against money laundering but points out that many of the announced measures lack detailed implementation plans.

“The measures are certainly welcome. But in detail, the explanations and specific actions remain unclear. […] The BBF was actually supposed to be established during this legislative period and would have had several important responsibilities. However, the Greens halted the legislative process.” — Dr. Jacob Wende

Wende emphasizes the importance of clear, practical implementation in order to achieve real impact in the market.
